Gouro
Coming from North, Gouros, Mandé population, arrived in this area at the 16th century. Gouro are called Lo or Golo and names themselves Kwéni. Baoulé name them Gouro. Defenses and horns are as many signs of virility, of power. The representations of elephants symbolize the force and the power. The Gouro masks are generally in wild Hevea, wood which requires a manuring of the part in order to prevent that wood does not work thereafter. The Gouro masks are cut of only one part (horns, defenses and characters are not added parts) and are more souvant of very sharp color a natural patina would not be a pledge of authenticity
