Baoulé
The Baoulé ethnos group currently lives in the center and is Ivory Coast. Baoulé arrived from Ghana in the first third of the 18th century. In Ghana, they had learned how to dominate, like Ashanti, the handling of metal, and in their new site they had to learn how from Gouro to work wood. The combination of their old skill with the new training gave like result a technically higher art. These masks are employed in the rites relating to agriculture, the fertility and also in the funeral ceremonies. Baoulé do not have rites of initiation.
