Bamiléké has for main root Baham, Bandjoun and Bayangam, villages of the former(ancient) ent of Mifi, western province. Two different hypotheses, dating the time(period) of the colonization of Cameroon, explain the origin of this name. The first one(night) asserts that an interpreter douala would be at the origin of the word Bamiléké. According to this version, the word Bamiléké comes from the term Baboté Ba leké " which would mean " " the carriers of mask with the face " ". The second supports that the word " " Bamiléké " ( Region of Dschang) " comes from the expression of the language(tongue) Foto " Pe me leke " " who mean " " the inhabitants of mountains and ravines " ". It is this last one who is mostly retained because this ethnic group living on the West on Cameroon in the raised and mountainous regions "
